Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA)
The Rite of Christian Initiation is the process whereby those desiring to enter the Church or complete their Initiation into the Church are prepared for the Easter Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist. Those inquiring about completion of their initiation include: non-baptized persons, those baptized in other Christian traditions, or Catholics who never completed their Sacraments of Initiation. The group is led by the Core Team. All inquiring persons are assigned a sponsor.
The Church exists in order to spread the Good News. It is the responsibility of the Church to sow the Gospel in God’s field of the world. RCIA is a process in which the Church aids those who are interested in coming to faith or deepening their faith, and builds up the Body of Christ. Team members and sponsors serve as witnesses to their faith and as support to the inquirers.
The Rite of Initiation involves certain stages of progress (Rites) which are celebrated in the midst of the community, which are held on specific Sundays in the fall and during Lent. In addition to weekly catechetical sessions, Sunday dismissal takes place from the last week of October until Holy Week.
