The Saint Pius X Conference fulfills the Society's mission by responding to emergency needs for food, clothing, home furnishings, and other necessities. Our members actually visit those in need and help discern what kind of help they need.

Our conference meetings are held on the 2^nd Wednesday of each month for brief prayers and spirituality, reports on home visits, current volunteer opportunities and other conference business.

How the Ministry Works:

• We get referrals either from the SVdP District Council office in downtown South Bend or from the parish office. A Call Secretary (St. Pius Vincentian) distributes the calls to members of the Saint Pius X Conference who then visit the family. Assistance is provided on an “as needed basis” and is flexible with volunteers’ schedules. We try to fulfill every home visit within 2-3 days.
• For home visits that require emergency food assistance, our members “shop” at the Saint Pius Food Pantry. Until the new church is complete, the pantry is temporarily located in the white house south of the Fir Rd. parking lot.
• When we make the home visit we attempt to engage the client in conversation about their circumstances. If it seems appropriate, we ask the client to join us in prayer.
• If the client needs clothing, furniture or rent/utility assistance, we advise them on the process for receiving this type of aid from the District Council office at 520 Crescent Ave. in South Bend.
• On the first full weekend of each month, the St. Vincent de Paul truck is available in the Saint Pius parking lot for dropping off household items and clothing. There is also a SVdP drop box on the south edge of the Fir Rd. parking lot.
