The St. Vincent de Paul Society is a Catholic lay organization that allows people to live their faith and grow spiritually through person-to-person service to people in need. It is this personalized outreach that makes the work of SVdP unique. The Saint Pius X Conference is one of 18 local parishes that together assist over 84,000 individuals each year in South Bend, Mishawaka and Granger. Vincentians believe that our blessings of time, talent or treasure are to be shared with the less fortunate.
Through the generous response from parishioners, we’re able to stock the Saint Pius X food pantry so that our Vincentians have a ready supply of food items to make home visits.
Volunteer Opportunities
SVdP’s goal is to serve those in need with dignity and to help empower them to achieve survival, stability, and self-sufficiency.
How you can be involved as a Saint Pius X Vincentian:
Going on home visits to deliver food (Saint Pius X Vincentians make 40-45 home visits each month)
Sorting and shelving food in our pantry
Shopping for food and hygiene items to distribute during home visits
Moving donated food from the church to the pantry on food weekends (1st weekend of the month)
Assisting with the parish Giving Tree Christmas program
Making blankets for Sweet Dreams ministry
Delivering beds for Sweet Dreams ministry
Doing client intake or client reception at SVdP District Office (downtown South Bend)
Helping the District Office with food drives at various locations in St. Joseph County
Helping with the Legacy Dinner and other fundraising events for the District Office
In keeping with the stewardship goals of the parish, the Saint Pius X Conference also manages the donations in the parish green envelopes distributed monthly. These funds are used for direct assistance to Saint Pius X parishioners and to buy food for the pantry.Meeting Schedule

Urgent Need - Volunteers Needed
We are in need of volunteers to bring food to the poor! Requests for food assistance have skyrocketed over 80% over the past three months compared to this time last year and it's stretching our volunteer base! Please prayerfully consider volunteering during this time of unprecedented need.
If interested, please call or text Maggie Smith (574-298-5498) or Sandi Rousseve (574-274-0162) and they will pair you with an experienced Vincentian and arrange a brief training session to get you started.
