As members of the Body of Christ, the Church, we are called to further her mission in the world and spread the Gospel in all aspects of life. The fathers of the Second Vatican Council describe this unique calling in Lumen Gentium (The Dogmatic Constitution on the Church):
The laity, however, are given this special vocation: to make the Church present and fruitful in those places and circumstances where it is only through them that she can become the salt of the earth. Thus, every lay person, through those gifts given to him, is at once the witness and the living instrument of the mission of the Church itself ‘according to the measure of Christ’s bestowal’ (Eph. 4:7). (LG 33)
The realization of this vocation of the laity is largely witnessed through Stewardship, which invites all followers of Jesus Christ to give intentional and proportional gifts of time (prayer), talent (service), and treasure (sacrificial giving) in service of the parish community, which thus furthers the mission of the Church.
In gratitude for God’s many blessings, St. Pius X Parish offers 8.5% of its income to the poor, 5% of which supports the ministry efforts of our sister parish of Saint Adalbert in South Bend. The remaining 3.5% is distributed to assist with local, national and international needs of the poor, as recommended by the Financial Resources Committee.
