Responding to the call of Christ and his Church, the mission of the Catholic Social Teaching Ministry of Saint Pius X Parish is to stimulate increasing numbers of St. Pius parishioners to become personally involved in alleviating injustices that impact the poor and disadvantaged, and changing social systems/structures that result in continuing harm to people.
We will seek to accomplish this mission via these general strategies:
1. Regular meetings; currently first and third Thursdays of each month. These meetings will be rooted in prayer, and will offer support, encouragement, counsel, and challenge to each other as we strive to push/pull/prod/cajole/motivate/inspire more parishioners into action.
2. Frequent presentations, designed for the parish at large, by persons who are already engaged in the work of changing social systems/structures. The purpose of these presentations will be both to build awareness of efforts that are underway, and to stimulate increased volunteerism on the part of parishioners.
3. Hold and/or publicize educational forums, workshops, presentations, lectures, videos, movies, etc., that seek to inform parishioners about the rich and long heritage of Catholic social teaching.
4. Review new requests for help from groups the parish is not yet involved with, and evaluate how such requests might fit in with current parish efforts.
5. Be open to pursuing other opportunities that seem fruitful and that are consistent with this mission.
