I was in prison and you visited me.
~ Matthew 25:36
Our brothers and sisters who are incarcerated are also our parishioners. Perhaps they once attended one of our Catholic schools, or sat in our church pews, or are related to one of our parishioners. They are from our cities, towns, and neighborhoods, or maybe they are from out of state. And, of course, they are all beloved sons and daughters of our heavenly Father and our brothers and sisters in Christ.
The Saint Pius X Jail and Prison Ministry was created to respond to Christ’s call for us to love and care for our brothers and sisters in jail or prison. Our mission is to proclaim the Good News of Jesus Christ and the sharing of his sacramental life to incarcerated individuals and their families in order to foster hope, human dignity, and opportunities for new beginnings.
Our ministry is designed to care not only for the incarcerated, but also their families, as wll as those recently released and reentering society. The goals of our ministry are to:
Continue to remember those in prison as if you were together with them in prison, and those who are mistreated as if you yourselves were suffering.
~ Hebrews 13:3
The Prison and Jail Ministry of Saint Pius X is called to serve by providing a Catholic presence to the incarcerated within our region, including:
"When I walk away from the prisons I visit I generally say to myself 'I am leaving with so much more than I came with'"
- John Bolstetter
