The Covered in Prayer Blanket Ministry provides homemade blankets for those in need of support and prayer. Volunteers purchase the materials needed to create the blankets. The volunteers pray over the blankets as they are being made. When blankets are brought to the Parish Office, they are blessed and packaged with a prayer card. Once blessed, prayer blankets are available in the Parish Life Center for parishioners to pick up and give to loved ones who are ill, in distress or otherwise in need of prayer.
The Prayer Blanket Ministry is open to anyone at any age. This ministry is perfect for families and for those who want to participate in a ministry from home.
Any type of lap blanket can be made: no-sew fleece blankets (directions HERE), crochet or knit blankets, or quilts.
While making the blanket, pray over it asking for God’s Spirit to fill each blanket with His love, healing and power. Once finished, drop off your completed blanket at the Parish Office. The blanket will be blessed by our priests and then placed on a display rack in the Parish Life Center for anyone to take and deliver to someone they know could use the prayers and warm support.
The Prayer Blanket ministry also provides prayer squares to various ministries to distribute. These are 4-inch squares of two layers of polar fleece sewn together around the outside and crossing from the corners. Squares can also be crocheted, knitted or quilted.
This beautiful ministry will touch the lives of parishioners who will receive a blanket while enduring a challenging time in their lives:
If you know someone in need of prayer and support, stop by the Parish Life Center display rack and pick up a blanket.
