Because of our baptismal promises, each Catholic is to aid with burying the dead, and comforting and consoling those who have lost loved ones. Funeral liturgies can be a powerful way to support families during this difficult time and can help evangelize and encourage others to return to the practice of their faith.
How the Ministry Works:
There are several ways in which parishioners can participate in the Bereavement Ministry:
Card Writers support and console the bereaved through sending cards and notes periodically after the death.
Team members visit the bereaved as necessary.
Team members can also be present at the Funeral liturgy to assist the family.
Expectations:
Bereavement Team members should be able to attend several meetings throughout the year.
Each Card Writer member volunteers to be available one month of the year, and will receive those names of parishioners who have died. They will be responsible to send cards of support and condolences to the surviving family members.
Those involved in supporting family at the funeral liturgies will aid the family prior to, during, and after the liturgy.
