Catechesis of the Good Shepherd is an approach to faith formation based on the educational principles of Maria Montessori. It was started in Rome by Sofia Cavalletti (a Hebrew Scripture scholar) and Gianna Gobbi (a Montessori directress) and has spread to several countries throughout the world. Children ages 3-12 are instructed in an "atrium" environment where they are free to learn about different aspects of the liturgy and scripture in a way that is appropriate to their age and development level.
